About Us

TopPickLab is an independent travel eSIM review site. We compare prepaid data plans for people travelling abroad — with a focus on Japan and Korea — and publish the per-gigabyte math so you can see what a plan actually costs before you fly.

Who this is for

If you are planning a trip and want your phone online the moment you land — without queueing for a local SIM or paying roaming rates — this site is for you. We write for travellers, not telecom engineers: plain language, real prices, and the trade-offs spelled out.

What we cover

Our library focuses on three things: which eSIM plans exist for a given destination (Japan, Korea and beyond), what each one really costs per gigabyte once you do the division, and how to choose between them — device compatibility, network speed, hotspot support, plan expiry and top-up rules.

How we compare prices

Sellers advertise the sticker price. We convert every plan to a unit rate — dollars per gigabyte — so plans of different sizes can be compared on equal terms. Prices are read from the seller’s own page on the date stated in each article, currencies are kept as quoted, and where a plan is marketed as unlimited we spell out what the fair-use cap actually is.

How we pick and review

  • Start from real specifications. Data allowance, validity window, network partner, speed caps, hotspot and tethering rules — the numbers that actually change how a plan behaves on a trip.
  • Cross-check user feedback. We read verified buyer reports, paying attention to complaints that repeat, not one-off rants.
  • State the trade-off. Every pick lists what you give up. A recommendation without a downside is marketing, not a review.
  • Keep prices honest. eSIM prices and plan sizes move constantly. Treat every figure as a snapshot taken on the date shown in the article.

Editorial independence and affiliate disclosure

Some links on this site are affiliate links, including tracked links through our affiliate partners. If you click through and make a purchase, we may earn a commission at no extra cost to you. That revenue keeps the site running.

What it does not buy is our opinion. We do not accept payment for positive coverage, we do not let providers approve a review before publication, and a higher commission rate has never moved a plan up a ranking. When a plan is a poor fit for most travellers, we say so even if it pays well.

Corrections

If you spot an outdated price, a discontinued plan or a factual mistake, tell us. We would rather fix it quickly than leave it standing. Send the article link and what you found through the contact page and we will verify and update.

Who writes here

Our content is researched and written by editors who compare travel connectivity products for a living, using provider plan pages, published network coverage and verified user reports. Where a recommendation depends on hands-on testing, we say so explicitly.
